DESCRIPTION

For the first time ever, American Tea Room has sourced and packaged our own signature Pu Er cakes from Yunnan, China. The Yongde Wild Arbor Pu Er is a ripe, or Shu Pu Er, meaning the tea was plucked, withered, rolled and bruised, steamed, and then wet-piled before being packed into cake molds. The wet-piling process helps to speed up the microbial fermentation process which makes a Shu Pu Er. Yong De is a region well known for their quality Pu Er and this cake was made from arbor tea, trees that were planted and harvested, but then allowed to grow wild. This tea brews into a very dark matte black color. Aromas of Spanish moss and cedar mix with the distinctive loamy earthiness of a Shu Pu Er. The tea is beautifully rich and laden with leathery, musky, caramelly notes. Hints of roasted roots and herbs brings to mind chicory coffee. The intensity and body keep one drinking more and more of this fantastic tea. Pu Er cakes are ideal for aging and, like a good wine, get better and more complex with time. An excellent heirloom gift, Pu Er can be aged for months, years, and even decades with proper storage. Simply keep it wrapped up, and store in a cool, dry place free of sunlight and strong odors. To prepare this tea, break off a piece and steep it as you normally would a loose leaf tea. Each 100gram cake is numbered from our limited pressing of 300.
